RV Destination of the Month: Olympic National Park

Contents

Every month on the Kirkland RV blog, we like to share a favorite RV vacation destination with our readers. Our goal is to provide camping and RV enthusiasts with fresh vacation ideas for each season and preference. For example, the month of August is notoriously warm in the Pacific Northwest, which means that the ideal vacation spot is near cool water, shaded by beautiful cedar forests, and comfortable for any sized RV.

Without any further ado, our August RV destination is the incredible Olympic National Park.

Why Olympic National Park?

Ranking as the sixth largest national park in the lower 48 states, Olympic National Park contains everything from glaciated mountains to an actual rainforest. However, during a hot summer, focus shifts to the park’s 60 miles of temperate coastline.

The marine wonderland running along the edge of the park offers endless hikes, scenic views, and thousands of species of wildlife. The water is teeming with life, from seals to porpoises, starfish, sea anemones, and crabs. Offshore islands host colonies of common murres and tufted puffins. You may even be treated to a whale sighting! If you’re looking to escape the daily grind in the city, the Olympic coastline is the place to do it.

RV Destination Accommodations and Campsites

The most well-loved campground along the Olympic coast is Kalaloch Campground. Open year round, Kalaloch Campground includes sites for both 21 and 35 foot RVs, including a dumpsite, handicap facilities, and beach access. Seven beach trails lead from the campground to the water, and an additional trail winds through the beautiful coastal forest. Kalaloch Campground is reservation only during the summer, so be sure to save your site today!

The Kalaloch area is the perfect home base for exploring more of the park inland. While our featured RV destination is the coastline, we can’t help but mention that the Hoh Rain Forest is a 45-minute drive from Kalaloch, and the Quinault Valley is just 30 miles away. These incredible wildernesses have been protected from the long arm of civilization, leaving them untouched and as awe-inspiring as it comes. Lush rainforests, alpine meadows, and mountain lakes are all within driving distance of Kalaloch.
